The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) conducts the Chartered Accountant (CA) Intermediate course, which is the second stage of the CA course. The CA Intermediate course is a three-year course that comprises two groups, with four subjects in each group.

CA Intermediate Course is second level of examination. The first level or stage is CA Foundation Course and the last level is CA Final course. During CA Intermediate you have to register for 3 years of articleship or practical training.

To become a Chartered Accountant in India, you have to join Chartered Accountancy (CA) course. CA Course is offered by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI), a second largest accounting body in the world. In CA course, you have to clear three level of exams conducted by ICAI.

In CA Foundation course, you studied only 4 subjects but in Inter level you have to learn 8 subjects. The Board of Studies (BOS) of ICAI shall provide all resources for your exam preparation including Study Material, Questions for Practice, Revision Test Papers (RTP), Mock Test Papers (MTP), Question Papers, Suggested Answers etc.

All about CA Intermediate Course 2024

Eligibility:

If you have cleared CA Foundation level exam, you are eligible for direct admission in Intermediate course. However, if you are graduate then there is no need to pass CA Foundation exams.

Additionally, CS Executive or CMA Inter passed students may also directly get admission to CA Intermediate. They are exempt from doing foundation course of ICAI.

Registration:

Admission to CA Intermediate is open throughout the year. If you are from foundation route then register on or before 1st March, 2023 for appearing in CA Inter Nov 2023. In case of direct entry, you have to start your articleship training on or before 31st July 2022 for being eligible for May 2023 examination.

ICAI ANNOUNCEMENT (DATED: 20.08.2022)

Relaxation for students registered provisionally till 31st July, 2022 in the Intermediate Course through Direct Entry Route for appearing in May, 2023 Intermediate Examination.

In order to overcome hardship being faced by the students who have provisionally registered in the Intermediate Course through Direct Entry Route on account of non-declaration of result of final year of the graduation, the Council as a one-time measure decided as under:-

  • Students who have provisionally registered for Intermediate through Direct Entry route till 31st July 2022 are required to submit satisfactory proof of having passed the graduation examination with the minimum marks as provided in sub-regulation (4) of Regulation 28F before filling the examination form of May 2023 Intermediate course.
  • Such Students are required to start their Practical Training on or before 1st October, 2022 after completing ICITSS and then appear for May 2023 Intermediate examination.
  • The above relaxation in the requirement of Regulation 28F & 28G shall be a one-time measure only.

Subjects and Syllabus:

There are 2 Groups and 8 subjects in CA Intermediate. Group-1 contain four papers and Group-2 also have 4 subjects. Following are the eight subjects:

3 Cost and Management Accounting
4 Taxation
Papers CA Intermediate Group-II Subjects
5 Advanced Accounting
6 Auditing and Assurance
7 Enterprise Information Systems & Strategic Management
8 Financial Management & Economics for Finance

CA Intermediate Course Duration:

You have to complete 8 months of study period before appearing in CA Inter examinations. However, if you are from direct entry, you should complete 9 months of practical training i.e. Articleship before submitting CA Intermediate exam form.

Study Material of CA Intermediate:

All study material of Intermediate course shall be freely available on official website of ICAI. Additionally, your study material shall be delivered to your home address after order on CDS portal of CA Institute.

Articleship during CA Intermediate:

If you clear either of both groups, you will be eligible for joining 3 years of compulsory articleship training. However, you have registered after graduation, you may start your articleship immediately after registration and completing four weeks ICITSS.

CA Intermediate Examination:

ICAI conducts CA Intermediate exams twice in a year viz. CA Inter May 2023 exams and CA Inter Nov 2023 examination. Intermediate exam form available in the month of February-March/ August-September for May/ November term of examination respectively.

CA Intermediate Result:

ICAI declares result within 45 days from the last date of examination. CA Intermediate result declares in January-February and July-August for examinations conducted by ICAI in the month of November and May respectively.
