ICAI prescribed the criteria for issuing a rank certificate under new syllabus for May 2024 Exams. There are rumors about the marks required to become a rank holder in CA Foundation Exam, CA Intermediate Exam and CA Final Exam.
Some students of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) confused about the ranking procedure in CA Foundation, CA Intermediate and CA Final examinations.
Accordingly, CA Institute has clarified the misconceptions arises among the various students and other stakeholders. Following are the practice of declaring a candidate as a rank holder in CA Examinations.
Declaration of Rank Holders by ICAI in CA Final Exams

Rank in CA Final May 2024
ICAI recognizes meritorious candidates in CA Final examination, by ranking them on the basis of the aggregate marks obtained by them in both the groups, on an all India basis, subject to his/her having secured a minimum of 55 percent marks, in one sitting without availing of any exemptions.
Rank certificates are issued upto 50th rank, on All-India basis. Thus, there is no practice of declaring any candidate as having secured a rank beyond 50 in CA Final Examination. You may check the name of CA Final Topper May 2024.
If you fulfill all the following criteria, you will get a rank certificate, indicating the rank secured by you in CA Final Course:
- One Sitting: You should have passed examination in one sitting;
- No Exemption: You should not have availed of any exemption in any paper; and
- Min. 55% Marks: You should have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate.

Rank in CA Intermediate May 2024
A candidate who fulfills all the following criteria is issued a rank certificate, indicating the rank secured by him in CA Intermediate Course:
- One Sitting: He should have passed examination in one sitting;
- No Exemption: He should not have availed of any exemption in any paper; and
- Min. 55% Marks: He should have secured a minimum of 55 per cent marks in aggregate.
Rank certificates are issued upto 50th rank, on All-India basis. Rank certificates will be dispatched to the concerned Regional Offices for further distribution to the candidates. You may check the name of CA Intermediate Topper May 2024.
Who shall be declared as a topper in CA Foundation Exam?
CA Foundation Merit List May 2024
ICAI has discontinued publication of merit list in CA Foundation examinations. However, the name of top three rank holders will be published on the official website of CA Institute at icai.org.
For ICAI May 2024 exams, only CA Intermediate and CA Final merit list will be declared. There will be no top 50 rank holders or merit list for CA Foundation examinations to be held in May 2024 examinations.
Note that if you get a minimum of 70% marks in a subject then you will be declared “Pass with Distinction” and such remarks will be indicated in your Result Card only. No Pass certificate will be issued and no merit list will be declared for CA Foundation May 2024 examinations.
Rank in CA Foundation May 2024
A student who secured a minimum of 60 percent marks in aggregate in his/her CA Foundation Examinations is recognized meritorious candidate up to 50th rank. You may check the name of toppers in CA Foundation Exam.
A candidate who fulfills all the following criteria is issued a rank certificate, indicating the rank secured by him/her:
- He/She should have secured a minimum of 60 per cent marks in aggregate.
- Rank certificates are issued upto 50th rank, on All-India basis.
